"What's the point of being Irish if you don't know the world will break your heart?"

What is the point of being a Democrat, Senators, if you don't know the time will come to speak for the poor and the weak - and the unpopular?

If you don't know that a line will be drawn and we have chosen you to stand on our side of it?

If you don't know that we have elected you to not only be our voice, but to be our ears too - and to listen with our hearts?

What is the point of being a Democrat if you don't cherish those timid centers of power - the Governorship, the Church - but work to lead them forward?

What is the point of being a Democrat if you don't care about tomorrow?
